Open Doors works extensively with other groups on campus to provide engaging discussion, social outlets, and community service to Ohio Northern University. During the 2005-06 school year, we worked with Lambda Law Society in hosting a discussion and a film titled, "Same Sex America" in the Moot Court Room of the Law School. With the Ohio Northern Environmentalists, we have organized a pumpkin carving and bonfire evening to build ties with other service organizations on campus. The Black Student Union and Open Doors hosted two events together this year; together the Halloween Party and Endless New Year celebration turned out to bring unity to our similar groups. The film "Inlaws and Outlaws" premiered for the first time ever in Ohio at our meeting in May. The director, Drew Emery and outlaw, Heather Andersen were able to speak about making the film thanks to the help of Lima Parents, Family, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, Open Doors Community Church of Findlay, Lambda Law Society, and Equality Ohio.

The largest and most extensive planning and collaboration opportunity Open Doors has had this year is Unite for Awareness Week held April 2-7, 2006. Throughout the entire week nearly 200 students participated in the Unite for Awareness events. In addition to Black Student Union, Open Doors is working with College Democrats, World Student Organization, Amnesty International, Habitat for Humanity, Student Planning Committee, and Student Senate to bring awareness to Ohio Northern University. Open Doors planned a discussion, in McIntosh lobby of film clips that involve critical issues in the lives of gay and lesbians and a campus wide viewing of the hit film Rent. The week's events took the span of five months to plan and execute. With the help of many dedicated individuals, Ohio Northern students had the chance to be exposed to different cultures and experiences that may have gone unnoticed in the general student population. This was accomplished through speakers, movies, student questions, and professionals. Open Doors members served as committee chairs and leadership positions for the week in addition to their officer obligations.

Throughout the year, Open Doors provides ways for members to interact and celebrate life on Ohio Northern University's campus. We sponsor monthly activities for members to participate in, including bowling, game nights, dances, area speakers, and performances. Open Doors is a facilitator of equality on campus for all students. We want to make the campus safe and comfortable for every student to be themselves and feel pride in their identity. We host the National Day of Silence for students and faculty to participate in and demonstrate the silence of discrimination. All of these activities incorporate gay and straight students to broaden awareness of issues of inequality. We want the group to be seen as a place where anyone can come to for assistance in adjusting to the college life. By providing a community that is accepting of differences, we are creating an organization that can unite students with many different backgrounds and experiences.
